Sometimes you just know that you're starting your day (or your week) off on the right foot. Take today, for instance. This morning, as I was at home getting ready for work, I remembered that I had a dentist appointment on my lunch break. Now, that's not a big deal, but I do have an aversion to the dentist's office. It's not a flat-out fear, like it used to be (thanks Mike!), but I still don't look forward to it. Add in the fact that I had a lot of stuff to get done at work today, and I wasn't looking forward to being out of the office for an extended period of time.
So, I'm bouncing all of this around in my head as I'm getting ready, trying to mentally allot my time for the day and figure out how I'm going to get everything done, as well as thinking how much I have to floss at work this morning to make up for my lack of flossing the last few weeks...which never fools them anyways, but it doesn't stop me from choosing to go with the gum-bleeding floss-frenzy. To be honest, if it did fool them, I would question the quality of my dental care, wouldn't you?
As I'm working through all of this in my head, the phone rings. I pick it up and it's my dentist's office, apologizing for the short notice, but telling me that my hygienist is sick today, and they have to reschedule my appointment. So, what started off as a potential negative, turned into a positive before I even left the house.
Next, I stopped at Tim Hortons to get my coffee on the way in to work. Yes this is the same Tim Hortons with all the crazy antics you hear about regularly on this blog. Well, usually it's a madhouse at this time of the morning, but I pull up and get the parking spot closest to the door, and when I get out...there's no one in line. Not just a short line, not just one person...no one in line. So I go up to order my coffee, and for the first time ever, the girl behind the counter says to me "Large Double Double, right?"
Ok...this is a good morning so far, I'm thinking to myself. A couple of good things have happened and I'm not even at work yet.
Now, when I get to work, I had a goal for myself today in terms of how much I wanted to get done, and it was pretty steep. Not only did I get it all done, I got a little extra on top, and put myself in a good position to finish tomorrow's tasks on this project a little earlier than planned.
Maybe I was just in a great mood because I had a great weekend. I mean, it doesn't get much better than making homemade ravioli with your girlfriend, does it? (No, that's not a code for something dirty...we made homemade ravioli.) Or maybe it all just fell into place this morning to start me off on the right foot for a great week.
Hope you all have a good week too.
